Position: Assistant Athletic Coach
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The assistant coach is responsible for carrying out the goals and objectives of the sport as outlined by the head coach/athletic director. He/she will provide each athlete and opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities. These activities will foster physical skills, a sense of worth and competence, a knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of the sport and the principles of fair play. The assistant coach may coach both the B and C teams.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The assistant coach will assist the head coach in carrying out his/her responsibilities. He/she will read and be responsible for the information found in the Coach’s Athletic Handbook.
- The assistant coach will supervise students in all areas, playing areas, practice areas, locker rooms, bus and at all home and away games.
- The assistant coach will provide support to the head coach /athletic administrator/athletic coordinator regarding athletic eligibility, athletic packet signatures, physical examination, proof of insurance coverage and parental consent documentation.
- The assistant coach will maintain an inventory system for equipment, uniforms and supplies used during the season.
- The assistant coach will assist the head coach with paperwork, statistics and injury release forms etc.
- The assistant coach will help with the enforcement of training rules and the discipline of athletes in a fair and consistent manner.
- The assistant coach will exhibit good sportsmanship and strongly encourage athletes to do the same.
- The assistant coach will maintain credentials to drive a school vehicle (car, vans, small transportation vehicles) for the program.
- The assistant coach will act as an assistant to the head coach and perform any other duties assigned to them.
- The assistant coach will perform other duties and exercise other powers consistent with the nature of the position and as may be requested by the Head Coach or Athletic Administrator/Athletic Coordinator.
JOB REQUIREMENT:
Middle school coaches are required to a fingerprint submission for criminal history check, along with agreeing to reference checks.
They are required to sign provided signature documents at one of the three coaching training sessions provided by the athletic administrator.
EVALUATION:
Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Staff Personnel.
