CLASS TITLE:  MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

 

CLASSIFICATION:  Non-Exempt

 

BASIC FUNCTION

Perform routine maintenance activities at an assigned school site or facility; maintain buildings and adjacent grounds areas in a clean, orderly and secure condition.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Plans, completes, and/or assists in such maintenance, preventative maintenance, and repair work as has been assigned, including electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems while maintaining a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency.

 

  • Deals with emergency repair problems with efficiency.

 

  • Orders materials as needed, and makes recommendations of supplies and equipment for purchase.

 

  • Conducts periodic inspections and tests of all electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems to insure a safe and efficient operating condition.

 

  • Immediately report to the Maintenance Supervisor any damage or major repairs needed to school property.

 

  • Assist other District Maintenance personnel or school custodians when needed.

 

  • Attend meetings, district activities and training as assigned.

 

  • Maintain open communication with students, parents, community and staff.

 

 

  • Participate in the thorough cleaning and restoration of campus facilities during vacation periods.

 

OTHER DUTIES:

Perform related duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems troubleshooting, repair and preventative maintenance,
  • Proper methods, techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in modern maintenance work.
  • Proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Requirements of maintaining buildings in a safe, clean and orderly condition.
  • Appropriate safety precautions and procedures.
  • Proper lifting techniques.

ABILITY TO:

  • Perform routine maintenance activities at an assigned school site or facility.
  • Maintain buildings and adjacent grounds areas in a clean, orderly and secure condition.
  • Use materials and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Operate a variety of maintenance equipment.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in clean working order.
  • Move and arrange furniture and equipment.
  • Provide basic carpentry and painting services.
  • Observe and report safety hazards and need for maintenance and repair.
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Observe health and safety regulations.
  • Meet schedules and time lines.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Any combination equivalent to:  sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above. HVAC certification a plus.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

ENVIRONMENT:

Indoor and outdoor work environment.

Subject to fumes, dust and odors.

Ability to work and communicate professionally within a student and staff environment.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of maintenance equipment and tools.

Walking or standing for extended periods of time.

Seeing to perform maintenance duties.

Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling moderately heavy objects.

Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching.

Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally.

Climbing ladders and working from heights.

 

HAZARDS:

Exposure to maintenance agents and chemicals.

Exposure to Blood Borne Pathogens.

Working on ladders.

 

EVALUATION

Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Staff Personnel.
